Rev. Dr. Robert Brown
Robert was born and raised in Atlanta and is a fifth generation native of the city. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Biology with a minor in Broadcast Journalism. He also holds the Master of Divinity degree from Emory University’s Candler School of Theology and a Doctorate of Ministry Degree from the University of Chicago, McCormick Theological Seminary. He is an ordained elder in the North Georgia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and has served Hickory Flat in Canton, Ebenezer in Conyers, Bethel in Stockbridge, Executive Vice President at Murphy Harpst Children’s Homes in Cedartown for seven years, Concord in Hickory Level, GA and on staff as Minister of Church Growth at St. Mark in midtown Atlanta for three years. His wife, Denise, is an accomplished vocalist who teaches piano and voice at home and together they have two daughters, Christine and Caroline. Robert and Denise enjoy playing with their Boston Terrier “Lola,” working in the yard and traveling.
Minister of Service & Administration
Chris began serving Rome First UMC in 2010. In addition to his general pastoral duties, he is responsible for our Serve The World activities, church administration, and oversees church communications. He has a passion for helping people see the relevance of Scripture in their daily lives and helping them find ways to live as 21st Century Christians. Chris is a graduate of Emory’s Candler School of Theology and previously served Sandy Springs UMC. Prior to going into full-time ministry, Chris worked in Information Technology, primarily in the area of Electronic Commerce. Chris enjoys playing soccer, kayaking, and fishing in his spare time. Chris’ wife Jennifer is a physician with Harbin Clinic and they have two young daughters.
Rev. Anjie Peek Woodworth
Anjie is an Atlanta native and a graduate of Georgia State University and Candler School of Theology. Having worked at a wide range of churches, Anjie has over ten years of experience in spiritual formation and Christian education ministries. She is passionate about journeying with people as they discover themselves with God. She also enjoys crafting, childbirth education, and, most of all, laughing with her husband, Andy, and their one year old son, Charlie. Anjie lives with Andy and Charlie and their dog, Jack, in Aragon, where Andy is the pastor at Aragon United Methodist Church.
Director of Children’s Ministries
Dawn is a graduate of the University of Georgia and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree from Berry College in Education with an Early Childhood Education emphasis. Over the past 17 years Dawn has held many positions working with children and families, both professionally and on a volunteer basis. Some of them include the Teaching Agriculture Safety to Kids program at the University of Missouri, Cooperative Extension in Georgia and Missouri and leadership roles in the Brookings, SD Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) program. Most recently, Dawn has worked as a three-year-old preschool teacher at PALS at Trinity UMC in Rome.
Dawn has served as the Children’s Coordinator (a lay position working with the Director of Children’s Ministries), a Wednesday night teacher for preschool and fourth-sixth grade classes in the Pioneer Club program and has served in various roles during VBS. Dawn and her husband Jay along with their three children moved to Rome seven years ago and live in the Armuchee area. Jay is an Associate Professor of Animal Science at Berry College.
Director of Traditional Worship
Joe directs the Chancel Choir and Roman Chimes at Rome First UMC. He studied music education and conducting at Oklahoma City University. Prior to moving to Rome, Joe was the music director at Western Oaks Christian Church and chair of the Fine Arts department for Heritage Hall School in Oklahoma City. Joe and his wife Becky were married in 1997. She is a professor of music at Reinhardt College.
Contemporary Worship Leader
Jennifer Talley is a 1987 graduate of Texas Tech University where she received her B.S. degree in Family Studies & Child Development through the College of Human Sciences. Jennifer moved from Texas to Rome after college and began working in Rome. She became a member of Rome First UMC. Jennifer has served on many committees at Rome First UMC prior to joining the staff. She previously taught at Rome First Preschool and at Darlington School. She has been in the choir at Rome First and has been a part of the Praise Band since it began. Jennifer is passionate about worship and music as well as small group formation. Jennifer met her husband, Jim, in Rome and got married in 1989. They have two sons, Sam and Jack.
