Position Description:
The Director of Contemporary Worship supports the ministry of Rome First UMC by leading the contemporary worship service and assisting the pastors in the planning and execution of the service.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Exhibit a mature faith in Jesus Christ. A mature disciple is one who fulfills the membership vows of The United Methodist Church (specifically the vows pertaining to prayers, presence, service and witness) and exhibits the fruits of the spirit listed in Galatians 5:22-23.
• Develop, lead and direct teams of volunteers and paid staff to support the weekly contemporary worship service and, occasionally, the traditional worship service.
• Lead the congregation in worship by selecting contemporary Christian music for the adult praise band that is aligned with United Methodist theology.
• Recruit and train vocalists, musicians, and other worship team volunteers, helping develop and refine their skills.
• Seek out ways to take this ministry into the community and invite others to join us for worship at Rome First UMC.
• Ensure that we have the appropriate licenses for all music and media used in the contemporary worship service and the livestream.
• Ensure that you and all praise band employees and volunteers have successfully completed a background check within the past 4 years and Safe Sanctuary training within the past 3 years.
• Ensure that the church’s Safe Sanctuary policy is followed during all practices and other activities.
• Create an annual budget that reflects the needs of the praise team’s ministry and ensure that spending does not exceed the budget approved by One Board.
• Participate fully as a team member of the church staff by attending staff meetings (when possible); One Board meetings; and staff gatherings and retreats unless excused by the senior pastor.
• Manage other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Have superior musical skills.
• Have experience teaching and leading vocalists and musicians, both paid and volunteer.
• Possess the ability to develop and lead a diverse group of vocalists and musicians and create a cohesive team.
• Be able to integrate media technology into the worship service as required.
• Have basic knowledge of the United Methodist Church, including UMC theology.
• Demonstrate the ability to work well and cooperatively with other team members.
• Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
