Nursery Worker

Position Description

The Nursery Worker supports the ministry of Rome First UMC by creating and maintaining a safe and nurturing environment for young children.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the process for checking children in and out of the nursery on Sunday mornings and at special events.

  • Complete The United Methodist Church’s Safe Sanctuary training program every two years.

  • Providing age-appropriate care which includes feeding; changing diapers; escorting to the bathroom; holding or sitting with children; and interacting with children through games, stories, and play.

  • Be polite, friendly, and courteous to all children, parents, and volunteers.

  • Be in the nursery ready to greet families no later than 15 minutes prior to the 9 a.m. worship service. Stay until the children are secured with a responsible adult named on the child’s check-in form.

  • In the event of an emergency notify the parent immediately.

  • Straighten the room and clean any toys before leaving.

  • Submit any planned absences in writing to the nursery director at least two weeks in advance.

  • Notify the nursery director by telephone at least two hours in advance in the event of an unplanned absence.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in working with young children and families is a must.

  • Demonstrate God’s love in working with our children and families.

  • Must maintain calm and order in the event of an emergency.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

  • Reports to the Children’s Director and Nursery Director

  • Must pass a background check and a drug test.
